ABOUT PESCAVORE
+ Is this jerky? It doesn't look like jerky?
Our innovative and proprietary methods of producing the tuna allow for more moisture and less salt than "jerky". These on-the-go, drain free strips are like smoked fish for the road. They are equally well suited to an on the go snack or a meal time replacement.
+ What is the shelf life of Pescavore?
The shelf life of our strips is 18 months from the date they are made. Find the exact Best By date printed on the side of your Pescavore pouch.
+ What kind of fish is this?
The fish in Ahi Tuna Jerky Strips is yellowfin tuna. Yellowfin is among the larger tuna species, reaching weights over 400 lb. It is significantly smaller than the Atlantic and Pacific bluefin tunas, which can reach over 990 lb, and slightly smaller than the bigeye tuna and the southern bluefin tuna.
In Hawaii, “ahi” refers to two species, the yellowfin tuna and the bigeye tuna. The fish in Pescavore is the yellowfin variety, with its distinctive soft dorsal and anal fins and finlets that are bright yellow.
Sustainably caught off the coast of California, our yellowfin is an excellent source of healthy, extra lean protein. It is also low in saturated fat and low in sodium. It is rich in niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, phosphorus and magnesium. Yellowfin tuna also provides a rich source of omega-3’s (DHA and EPA) which are important to a variety of human health functions including neurological health. Find the specific amount of Omega 3 directly on your pouch.

Ingredients, Allergens, Food Safety & Nutritional Information
+ Are there any allergens in Pescavore?
Pescavore is gluten free and made without dairy. However, the strips do contain fish, Smokey Poké and Island Teriyaki also contain soy. The specific allergens are listed directly on the package.
+ Is there any gluten in Pescavore Tuna Jerky?
At Pescavore, we understand that health preferences and allergies are important to our consumers. We specially source certified gluten free ingredients for all of our jerky strips.
+ Is there added sugar?
Our gluten free, natural marinades contain a small amount of sugar. The residual sugar in the tuna after marinating and cooking is 1g or less per pouch. Caribbean Jerk contains no sugar.
+ Are your products dairy free?
All of our jerky strips are dairy free.
+ Are your products kosher?
At this time, none of our jerky strips are certified Kosher.
+ How much protein is in each product?
At Pescavore, we believe that seafood should be seasonal. Our commitment is to never provide you less than 12 g of protein, which is the statement on the universal pack. For the specific details of your seasonal fish purchase, take a look at the nutritional information panel on the back of your package.
+ Has the fish been treated with Carbon Monoxide? Are there any natural or artificial dyes?
Our fish has not been treated with carbon monoxide or artificial dyes. The color you see is from the natural marinade process. Buyers of fresh tuna, whether at the sushi bar or the supermarket, often look for cherry-red flesh to tell them that the fish is top-quality. But, in the US, it has become increasingly likely that the fish is bright red because it has been sprayed with carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide preserves only the color of the fish, not its quality.
Although the Food and Drug Administration says the process is harmless Japan, Canada and the countries of the European Union have banned the practice because of fears that it could be used to mask spoiled fish.
Other fish processors may add color to tuna through the use of dyes. We believe that sourcing high quality tuna and processing it in a natural and additive free way is important, and are committed to never using artificial dyes or CO treatment in our products.
+ Is Pescavore safe for kids? What about pregnant women?
The FDA and EPA have issued advice regarding eating fish. This advice is geared toward helping women who are pregnant or may become pregnant - as well as breastfeeding mothers and parents of young children - make informed choices when it comes to fish that is healthy and safe to eat. This helpful guide can be found at the following link: FDA Consumer Resources
Yellowfin tuna is a source of brain and heart healthy omega 3 fatty acids. For women who are pregnant or may become pregnant - as well as breastfeeding mothers and parents of young children, it is considered a good choice for eating 1 serving per week.
+ Are the pouches BPA Free?
Yes, our pouches are certified BPA fee.
+ Why is there oil in the pouch? Is this an additive?
The oil that you see in the pouch is naturally occurring fat released from the tuna during the cooking process. The fat from tuna is a source of brain and heart healthy omega 3 fatty acids. We believe that seafood jerkies taste better with their moisture retained and have intentionally left this delicious oil in the pouch.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Check out our Blog for easy to understand information about the social responsibility issues surrounding seafood.
+ Is the fish considered sustainable and responsibly processed?
Yes. The Seafood Watch Guide from the Monterey Bay Aquarium contains recommendations for making ocean-friendly choices wherever you are: https://www.seafoodwatch.org/.
Our tuna is unassociated purse seine (non-FAD) caught in the Western Central Pacific Ocean, off the coast of California. According to Seafood Watch it is a “good alternative” to fish and fishing methods that harm marine life and the environment. Because our tuna is sourced and processed in the USA, you can be assured it is traceable to the fishing vessel, and processed by workers that are paid a fair wage.
+ Are the pouches recyclable?
Unfortunately, due to our unique process, a recyclable plastic material is not yet commercially available. We continue to closely monitor packaging innovations to adopt a recyclable pouch as soon as it is available. For now, our impacts are focused on presenting minimally processed, clean proteins, that provide alternatives to fresh fish which is highly susceptible to spoilage and waste.
In addition, our tuna is not caught using Fish Aggregating Devices (FADS) and does not contribute to the plastic pollution associated with fishing on FADs.
